Evening all!! :)
Right so we had quite a few beers last night and lotsa laughs. I quite like Caen but feel that it has a scetchy undertone like Irkutsk (Siberia)...
So this morn we headed off to le memorial de caen and our tour...first we went to Gold beach (I know I painted my nails gold for a reason (I have pics to prove) and saw the mulberrys, they are sooo cool...mad to see them in the sea and hear about their construction! Didnt have time to go in the 360 cinema but I have heard that it is good. Was mad looking out to sea, wandering what it was like for the guys... :(
So then onto longues-sur-mer and the german gun placements-hellish those things have a long range...got some awesome pics! One gun had been hit by HMS Ajax and had a massive hole.
Then onto Coalville sur mer (omaha cemetary) where saving private ryan scenes were filmed, saw a jewish grave (love the star of david) and theodore roosevelts grave and also the graves of 2 bro;s that spr was based on! Very very nice cemetary as war cemetaries are-peaceful apart from when I got told off for eating a cheese sandwich! rar! I learned something today-the american families have a coice to have them flown home or to be buries where they fell...all other countries bury them where they fall....the last remains they found were in 1993 in Italy and he his buried in at omaha with his bro....also they have wall with the names of the falln like the menin gate..
Then onto omaha beach, madness, the cliffs were huge-again american memorial, lovely inscription that read "I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees"-I just love that! Awesome!
Then finally onto Pointe de Hoc....now as you probably know I love WW1 and WW2 history but omg I thought we were near Utah-oh no, that is the stretch of beach over there if you sqint-the amount of costline that was attacked on 06/06/44 is so huge, I really didnt realise the scale. I remember going to pres thinking I knew a lot but until you actually see it you dont realise. Hellish.
So PDH is mad, lotsa craters, ole german bunkers etc-got some cool shots. ou also get to realise what a job the rangers had on their hands!!
After all of that we went back to the memorial de caen for lunch where bro got told by thr stroppy waitress that she didnt speak english after he ordered in french, clasic!!!
Then got a bus into town and had beers and food. ooh I bought an ansum d-day t-shirt and some other bits including the cricket thing that clicks (flash, thunder for all the band of brothers/the longest day fans).
So...homeward bound in the morn, back to reality. Been ansum weather out here, hope it has been in england too.
will post photos on fb when get back, lotsa love
H and D (altho the latter has passed out and is snoring)!

Eyebrow beer and sweaty UGGS!!
Hellloooo...just got to hotel in Caen, bro is passed out hehe after lugging bags!!
The journey up to Pompey last night was hellish but softened by a blue cheese burger... :)
Had a beer at the digs last nigth and bro's had the barmaids eyelash in it..was rather amusing as she tried to fish it out...bro wouldnt dare look at me knowing I would laugh so he turned away and had his face pressed up against the wall-class!!
Argh up at 5am..ferry was fine altho trying to get some kip with kids screaming was not good...
As we came in Sword beach (british) was on our right, was weird thinking what it must have been like to for the guys on the landing crafts that morning in June.
Seen some memorials so far but really just been getting here, stopping for cupsatea/beer (H/D)!
We are gonna look for a tour later for tomorrow-hoping to get to arromanches, omaha and sword.
Proper ansum nice!!
Hence to say its been a comedy scetch so far-bloody moody bus driver from port to town..ggrrr.
Hope y'all have a nice wknd, will update again soon..off to a bar in a bit I think...quel surprise!!
Lotsa love
